Astana, Kazakhstan — Kazakh artist Alina Akhmetbek presents 72 Voices of Earth, a monumental large-scale quilling mosaic that merges paper art, environmental symbolism, and conceptual storytelling into a single immersive artwork. The project was publicly demonstrated on April 22, 2026, in celebration of Earth Day, as a World Guinness Records attempt to create the largest paper quilling mosaic image of Earth. Measuring 41.66 square meters, the artwork consists of 72 individual pieces and more than 300 hundred thousands of individually hand-rolled paper elements arranged into a highly detailed representation of Earth. Entirely handmade over the course of six years, every quill was rolled by hand and carefully applied onto wooden boards to create the final mosaic. The mosaic is structured through two interconnected conceptual systems: the symbolism of the number 72 and the geometry of the logarithmic spiral.

Surfrider Puerto Rico led local students, community leaders, and environmental organizations at Puerto Rico Coastal Recreation Hill Day to advocate for the protection of Bahia de Aguadilla and coastal ecosystems across Puerto Rico. Together, they met with legislators to support protections for coral reefs, mangroves, and other coastal habitats. We’re grateful to stand alongside our student clubs, the Coalition for the Restoration of Santurcean Ecosystems (CRES), and the dedicated volunteer leaders working to protect our coasts for future generations.

Surfrider Rincón on April 21st set up an information table at SESO (a local school) in the afternoon to inform students about our various programs and projects going on with Surfrider. This was an effort to teach the kids about planting mangroves, performing water quality tests, and the importance of taking care of our beaches.

Since 2019, we have been actively organizing plantation drives with a strong commitment to environmental sustainability. Each drive has successfully seen the planting of over 1000 saplings, contributing to greener surroundings and a healthier ecosystem. Our mission goes beyond just planting trees — we focus on creating small forest patches that can thrive independently and support biodiversity. These efforts are our way of giving back to Mother Earth and restoring the natural balance. A key highlight of our initiative is the active involvement of the younger generation. By engaging youth in these drives, we aim to build awareness, responsibility, and a lifelong connection with nature. Together, we are not just planting trees — we are growing a greener future. 🌱

To celebrate the “World Earth Day” , On 30 April 2026, a large-scale environmental awareness and cleanup campaign was successfully conducted across the academy and its surrounding community . Covering nearly 90 acres, cadets, staff, officers, local community members, Badalpura Bandhan Club, Millennium Club youth, and school scouts came together in a united effort. Divided into 8 zones, participants collected significant amounts of plastic, paper, and solid waste within just one hour—demonstrating the power of collective action Key Highlights: · Launch of the “Green Campus & Clean Compound” initiative · Tree plantation program across all zones as a symbolic start to campus greening · Introduction of the “My Bottle Campaign” -promoting the use of glass and reusable bottles to reduce single-use plastic · Demonstration and distribution of color-coded bins for waste segregation · Engagement of community stakeholders through awareness and participation Building on a Sustainable System: ================================ This initiative represents the second phase of a long-term waste management system introduced in 2018. With existing facilities like a biogas plant, central waste collection zone, and recycling processes already in place, the focus now shifts to strengthening segregation at the source. In commemoration of Earth Day 2026, OLU WATER (Liquid Island (Pvt) Ltd), under Rockland Distilleries (Pvt) Ltd Corporate Responsibility, partnered with the NLDB (National Livestock Development Board) to implement a targeted site rehabilitation initiative at an NLDB Manikpalama farmland opposite Haritha Kanda, Bopaththalawa. The actioned NLDB site is not a protected area but remains ecologically significant within the broader cloud forest landscape. Our prior assessments conducted in 2025 across the landscape indicated that approximately 67% of a 32Ha mapped area was under moderate to severe invasive species pressure. Also, the increased visitor activities during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year period further contributed to non-biodegradable waste accumulation at the site. A rapid pre-intervention biodiversity assessment was conducted in the demarcated site to identify the presence of any threatened species requiring safeguards. As no such species were recorded within, the actions followed. The restorations preliminary phase therefore proceeded with a combined focus on non-biodegradable solid waste removal and invasive species management. Target species included Austroeupatorium inulifolium and Cymbopogon nardus iradication. Removal was conducted using mechanized support, including a Harrow–Trailing and rotavator uprooting, (under the direct supervision of NLDB farm management) which followed by manual collection. Overall, the action occurred in the least infested invasive plant available land (4.89 Ha) as a pilot area to test restoration possibility. A total of 26 participants, including NLDB personnel and Team Olu, contributed to the intervention. Uprooted biomass was systematically collected for composting, minimizing secondary ecological disturbance while facilitating nutrient recycling. The project will follow native grass introduction at the second phase. This activity functioned as a stepping stone in ecological response to address Biological Pollution (our theme to the 2026 financial year) within a broader restoration framework. This also enables community driven action in non-protected highland ecosystem.

In PCR’s Park Cleanup event, volunteers are responsible for maintaining the appearance, health, and safety of landscapes and features in public parks. Volunteers will work to beautify the park grounds by keeping lawns green, raking the leaves and litter-free, planting and tending the flowers and shrubs, and removing the weeds. In an effort to keep the park safe, volunteers will maintain and make any repairs to park debris as needed. Participants will work hard to ensure the park is attractive and clean for community members. Through this event, the community will understand the importance of maintaining a clean environment for their neighborhood.

REPORT ON EARTH DAY ACTIVITIES AT CITY OF MERCY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY In line with the theme for this year’s Earth day “Our Power, Our Planet” , Our school City of Mercy Christian Academy one of the Centre of Excellence for Climate Smart Agriculture Youth Network Global (GCSAYN) Nigeria organised an event which featured an engaging workshop and establishing a herbal garden with the theme "Medicines from the Earth" The event had 152 participants of which 132 were elementary and high schoolers while the remaining 20 participants were teachers. This was to educate the pupils and students of City of Mercy Christian Academy on the importance of caring for our Environment since they are young and easier to model good behavior in them.Also they can be encouraged to choose to be actors or left to be Victims of a destroyed Earth. The Theme " our power our planet "says it all in the sense that we lose our power when we lose our planet. We live and depend on the earth for ALL of our resources such as water, food, earth, housing etc. Mr Thomas Mafeng and his team was invited from the city’s agency responsible for environmental planning and development (Jos Metropolitan Development Board, JMDB) and Mr Satkat Longchi From the Department of Plant Science and biotechnology, University of Jos. The session focused on issues affecting the earth such as waste management, recycling, planting of trees to boost the supply of oxygen and disease prevention and control. These concepts were communicated such that both elementary graders and high schoolers could relate to them and put the recommended measures into practice. In line with theme of the earth day; Our Power, Our Planet, the first session was anchored by the Proprietor, City of Mercy Christian Academy, Veronica Edeki who introduced the theme to the students, highlighting the need for everyone to be conscious of the earth as a living entity. Mr Thomas from the JMDB team brought further insight on how the earth supports humanity and so deserves to be cared for. The students were also educated on proper ways to dispose waste, prevent flooding, rodents and pest control and how to manage other environmental hazards. The students then proceeded to plant various trees and herbs at the school garden as a way of putting into practice what they had learnt about caring for the earth by planting trees to increase the supply of oxygen in their environment. Plants such as Moringa, Aloe Vera, Lemon Grass, Sweet basil, and scent leaf were planted at the school garden by the students Some of the insightful quotes by our learners can be found in the videos sent alongside the pictures sent to the link included. Students gained insights in the following areas,Waste Management .Waste disposal Recycling,Rodents and pest prevention and control ,Disease prevention and control, Environmental hazards and earth hygiene As well as practical Knowledge on how to plant trees and herbs stressing food and medicinal plants as benefits we detive from the Earth. This was to educate the pupils and students of City of Mercy Christian Academy on the importance of caring for our Environment since they are young and easier to model good behavior in them.Also they can be encouraged to choose to be actors or left to be Victims of a destroyed Earth. The Theme " our power our planet "says it all in the sense that we lose our power when we lose our planet. We live and depend on the earth for ALL of our resources such as water, food, earth, housing etc. Mr Thomas Mafeng and his team was invited from the city’s agency responsible for environmental planning and development (Jos Metropolitan Development Board, JMDB) and Mr Satkat Longchi From the Department of Plant Science and biotechnology, University of Jos. The session focused on issues affecting the earth such as waste management, recycling, planting of trees to boost the supply of oxygen and disease prevention and control. These concepts were communicated such that both elementary graders and high schoolers could relate to them and put the recommended measures into practice. In line with theme of the earth day; Our Power, Our Planet, the first session was anchored by the Proprietor, City of Mercy Christian Academy, Veronica Edeki who introduced the theme to the students, highlighting the need for everyone to be conscious of the earth as a living entity. Mr Thomas from the JMDB team brought further insight on how the earth supports humanity and so deserves to be cared for. The students were also educated on proper ways to dispose waste, prevent flooding, rodents and pest control and how to manage other environmental hazards. The students then proceeded to plant various trees and herbs at the school garden as a way of putting into practice what they had learnt about caring for the earth by planting trees to increase the supply of oxygen in their environment. Plants such as Moringa, Aloe Vera, Lemon Grass, Sweet basil, and scent leaf were planted at the school garden by the students Some of the insightful quotes by our learners can be found in the videos sent alongside the pictures sent to the link included. Students gained insights in the following areas,Waste Management .Waste disposal Recycling,Rodents and pest prevention and control ,Disease prevention and control, Environmental hazards and earth hygiene As well as practical Knowledge on how to plant trees and herbs stressing food and medicinal plants as benefits we detive from the Earth. The event featured a panel discussion on youth-led approaches to environmental protection, with panelists from ICCCAD, UNESCO, and the field of environment and development practice. It was followed by a collaborative mural painting session in which 30 participants co-created a large-scale artwork using entirely recycled and upcycled materials — a living symbol of collective action for the planet. April 22 is globally recognized as World Earth Day, observed this year under the theme “Our Power, Our Planet.” It serves as a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to protect and preserve the environment. This year’s observance calls for intentional action, and De New Calabar Leo Club participation in the LEO'S GO GREEN:Shoreline Cleanup Project reflects our commitment to safeguarding aquatic environments from pollution and degradation. Our shorelines are vital to both ecological balance and community well-being. Unfortunately, they are increasingly threatened by plastic waste, debris, and improper disposal practices. Join us for an Earth Day lunch in a traditional Korean hanok, where we’ll explore a key question: why is global warming still accelerating despite growing climate action? An overlooked part of the answer lies in “super pollutants”, non-CO2 greenhouse gases such as methane and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) that drive powerful near-term warming. As temperatures rise, demand for cooling, energy, and industry also increases, creating a feedback loop that further accelerates emissions. This interactive, myth-busting session will break down these ideas and highlight practical opportunities for action today. It will touch on emerging efforts in Korea, including Chungnam Province’s methane reduction roadmap and refrigerant policies, and share insights from broader initiatives on how to tackle super pollutants and speed up climate solutions.

Earth day 2026 Event Medicine from the Earth REPORT ON EARTH DAY ACTIVITIES AT CITY OF MERCY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY In line with the theme for this year’s Earth day “Our Power, Our Planet” , Our school City of Mercy Christian Academy one of the Centre of Excellence for Climate Smart Agriculture Youth Network Global (GCSAYN) Nigeria organised an event which featured an engaging workshop and establishing a herbal garden with the theme "Medicines from the Earth" The event had 152 participants of which 132 were elementary and high schoolers while the remaining 20 participants were teachers. This was to educate the pupils and students of City of Mercy Christian Academy on the importance of caring for our Environment since they are young and easier to model good behavior in them.Also they can be encouraged to choose to be actors or left to be Victims of a destroyed Earth. The Theme " our power our planet "says it all in the sense that we lose our power when we lose our planet. We live and depend on the earth for ALL of our resources such as water, food, earth, housing etc. Mr Thomas Mafeng and his team was invited from the city’s agency responsible for environmental planning and development (Jos Metropolitan Development Board, JMDB) and Mr Satkat Longchi From the Department of Plant Science and biotechnology, University of Jos. The session focused on issues affecting the earth such as waste management, recycling, planting of trees to boost the supply of oxygen and disease prevention and control. These concepts were communicated such that both elementary graders and high schoolers could relate to them and put the recommended measures into practice. In line with theme of the earth day; Our Power, Our Planet, the first session was anchored by the Proprietor, City of Mercy Christian Academy, Veronica Edeki who introduced the theme to the students, highlighting the need for everyone to be conscious of the earth as a living entity. Mr Thomas from the JMDB team brought further insight on how the earth supports humanity and so deserves to be cared for. The students were also educated on proper ways to dispose waste, prevent flooding, rodents and pest control and how to manage other environmental hazards. The students then proceeded to plant various trees and herbs at the school garden as a way of putting into practice what they had learnt about caring for the earth by planting trees to increase the supply of oxygen in their environment. Plants such as Moringa, Aloe Vera, Lemon Grass, Sweet basil, and scent leaf were planted at the school garden by the students Some of the insightful quotes by our learners can be found in the videos sent alongside the pictures sent to the link included. Students gained insights in the following areas,Waste Management .Waste disposal Recycling,Rodents and pest prevention and control ,Disease prevention and control, Environmental hazards and earth hygiene As well as practical Knowledge on how to plant trees and herbs stressing food and medicinal plants as benefits we detive from the Earth. Earth day activities at City of Mercy Christian Academy was highly impactful as the students came up with some resolutions which focuses on behavioral changes that will help protect the earth.
